Word has been received of the death of Helen Margaret (Surque) Maher on Tuesday, 02 July 2013 in Jackson, Jackson, County, MI. Helen Margaret (Surque) Maher was born 29 Nov 1924, the daughter of Alfred Edward Surque (31 Dec 1898 - 25 Oct 1974) and Ruth Irene Ankeny (04 Sep 1898 in Ohio - May 1980 in Jackson, MI). Helen graduated from Mercy College with a B.S.N. degree and worked as a nurse in a doctor's office. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Francis Maher (23 Dec 1927 in Clinton, IA - 26 Nov 1997 in Jackson, MI) and a daughter, Helen Marie (Maher) Barczak (19 June 1960 - 04 Nov 1987 in Jackson, MI).
 
Xavier Surque married Marie Antoinette Reiniche. They had a son, Francis Xavier Seraphim Surque.
 
Francis Xavier Seraphim Surque (04 Oct 1862 in Haut-Rhine, France - 10 Dec 1918 in Paulding County, Ohio, USA) married Anna LaLonde (14 Sep 1875 in OH - Dec 1967 in Hicksville, OH), daughter of Peter & Amelia (Dorae) LaLonde. They had 5 children:
  1. Marie M. Surque (b. Oct 1895 in OH)
  2. Alfred E. Surque  (b. Dec 1897 in OH) married Ruth Irene Ankney (04 Sep 1898 - May 1980). They had 5 children.
  3. Charles A. Surque  (b. Jan 1900 in OH - 1969) married Rose L. (1892 - 1947)
  4. Virginia C. Surque  (28 March 1902 in OH - 27 Aug 1997 in OH)
  5. Xavier F. Surque  (17 May 1905 in OH - 10 March 1992 in IN)
 
Obituaries
 

Francis Xavier Seraphim Surque was born Oct. 5, 1862, at Etueffont, bas, Department of Haut-Rhine, France; son of Xavier Surque and Marie Antoinette Reiniche. Came to the United States in 1887. Was united in marriage to Annie Lalonde on the 20th day of November, 1894, at Cecil, Ohio, and resided on his farm south of Cecil, until he departed this life 10th day of December, 1918.

He leaves to mourn his death his devoted wife Annie and five children, namely: Marie, Alfred, Charles, Virginia and Xavier; one sister residing in New Bedford, Mass., besides other relatives residing in France.

 

Mrs. Anna Surque, age 92, who resided at 208 West High Street, Hicksville, O., died at 8:30 a.m. Friday at home. She had been in ill health the past week.

Mrs. Surque was born September 14, 1875 in Cecil, Ohio, the daughter of Peter and Amelia Dora LaLonde. She resided with her parents until her marriage with Seraphim Surque. They started housekeeping on a farm near Cecil where Mr. Surque died in 1918. In 1935 she moved to Hicksville and resided in the home of her daughter, Virginia.

Mrs. Surque was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society.

Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. Lewis (Marie) Balser and Miss Virginia Surque both of Hicskville; three sons, Fred of Cement City, Mich., Charles of Cecil, Ohio and Xavier of New Haven, Ind.; five grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in St. Michael's Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. The Reverend Walter Kozlowski, Pastor of the church, officiated. Burial was in the Rochester Cemetery at Cecil, Ohio. The Perkins & Reeb Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
