Jean Ellen (Gaston) Maher

Loving daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend died at home surrounded by her family March 24, 2013. Jean and her twin brother, Dean Jr. were born November 12, 1930 to the late Dean Sr. and Mildred (Millie George) Gaston. After graduation from Leslie High School in 1949 she was wed to John "Jack" Maher Sr. who died in 1982. Prior to retirement, Jean worked for Arthur Murray Dance Studios, in many food service venues, nursing and as house mother for Kappa Delta Sorority at Michigan State University, but, she always said her most important job was matriarch to a family of nine children and repeatedly said, "I've had a happy life and was blessed to have each of my children." We will miss our beloved but know she is at peace with the Lord. A Memorial Service will be held later. Jean's admirable legacy to all was unconditional love, acceptance and forgiveness. She was also preceded in death by her son, Mark Maher, twin brother, Dean and sister, Beverly Verplanck. Jean is survived by her sister, Patricia Gaston; aunt, Irene Cuzynski and children, Linda (James) Adams, Jack (Rosie) Maher II, Jill (Jeffrey) Hart Sr., Scott (Shelly) Maher, Ed, Jeff, Jeannie and Beverly Maher. She is further survived by grandchildren, Jim (Kimberly), John and Jessica Adams, Jack III and Kip Maher, Jeffrey (Mary Curren) and Jacob Hart, Brittney and William (Billy) Johnson, Loren Trout, Nicole Reichard, Brett Johnson Maher, Erika, Annika, Brandon and Kaleigh Maher, Jeana (Tom) Okoniewski and Sarah, Angela and Melissa Maher. Other survivors include daughters-in-law, Priscilla Maher and Kim Dangler and sisters-in-law, Betty Gaston, Mary Ann Rainey and Monie, Helen and Dianna Maher. Jean is further survived by great-grandchildren: twins, Storm and Jaiden, Raeanne, Riley, Breanna, Liam, Brayden, Brandon, Donovan, Leah, Logan and Noah along with many loving nieces & nephews. Arrangements by Wetherby Funeral Home.
